This year's Cambridge Folk Festival was one of the best I've been to.
We’ve been going for the last six or seven years and it has become an essential part of our summer. They are always fun, but this one was really good. The music was an interesting mix, Jake Bugg, Hayseed Dixie and Niteworks standing out, but there was much more to it: reasonable weather and decent food. Lots of beer.
But mostly it was about the people. We met our lovely friends Stephen and Kara. Jackie and Gudge. A new friend, Georgia. The layout of the festival changed so that there were more open spaces and places to sit. We grabbed a bench and let the festival move around us. We talked and told stories and laughed. Later on, we sought out bands and fought our way into the main stages but for several hours we chatted on with the music in the background.
That might not sound very exciting but it was great downtime. A chance to recharge after a hectic year.
