No Glasto

Most years, this would be the week that Glastonbury Festival kicked off.

It's not happening in 2018 because it is a fallow year and the Eavis family are giving their farmland a rest.

That's a great idea but it's a shame in a way.

Glastonbury pulls in so many amazing performers and artists and musicians that it seems to give the whole country a boost. Like the creative body of the UK gets a shot of adrenalin.

Of course, there are still some other amazing things going on. There are numerous smaller and more specific festivals, as well as the usual big rock events like Isle of Wight (happening now), Download Festival (earlier in June) and Leeds/Reading (August). But they struggle to be as big and varied as Glastonbury. For theatre and general creativity, Edinburgh Festival is hard to beat, but that again is a different beast.

So it's a little bit of shame that there is no Glastonbury this year from a creative perspective, but worse than that, the weather forecast (for the whole country) over the next week is for sun, sun and more sun.

Had it been on, Glastonbury 2018 would have been a dry one, which is always a blessing.
