This weekend, at the Brewery Arts Centre, there is an open-mic poetry and storytelling evening. Headlining (how you doing Kendal!?) will be good friend, Phil Hilbourne who is an experienced storyteller and always great value.
I used to pop along and read some of my poems but I now realise I haven't done this for some time. Probably three years, maybe even more. There always seemed to be something more pressing than a poetry evening... Anyway, even if I don't read anything it has forced me to put pen to paper (hands to keyboard?) and write some new material.
There were a couple of old poems worth tarting up but there are three new ones I want to try out. They're quite an eclectic selection, involving a motorbike, snowflakes, separation, Elvis and Kurt Cobain but they roughly hang together as a set. Roughly.
So, even if I just sit and drink and listen to the others, it will be a pleasant evening and it has made me engage a few creative muscles. I've given myself a little poetry workout.
