After a rotten winter, where it felt like every week there was snow or a storm or heavy rain; when every window at home was bolted shut and the heating was flat out: after all that, there seem to be a few signs of spring.
Actually, it was really warm a week ago. Nearly twenty degrees in Kendal, which is pretty good for the English Lakes in April. Down in London, it was nearer thirty degrees, as warm as it gets in the UK.
It has cooled off again now but at least there are hints of warmer times ahead. Trees are coming into leaf and birds are busy nesting. The evenings are lighter and the drone of lawnmowers can be heard across the parks of Kendal.
With all that, it seems a good time to make some plans for the summer. The usual Cambridge Folk Festival and maybe a couple of others. Trips to the beach and picnics in the Lakes. Longer walks in the hills that don't involve artic gear.
Things to do outside after months trapped indoors.
